2007 Black Oak Thanksgiving Feast in Gary, IN
Wednesday night prior- the
youth prepare sweet potatoes
In past years, the youth group
prepared 40-60 pounds of homemade sweet potatoes from scratch.
Once again, this year, we were asked by the Firehouse Community Center, in Gary, to prepare
100 pounds of homemade sweet potatoes. Our goal was to surpass
last year's amount, which was around 170#. Our church family
and youth group brought in
200+ pounds of fresh sweet potatoes. Also, we tried a
new method: we peeled, washed, cut, and then boiled the potatoes.
Many thanks goes to our youth and families. We appreciate the
donation of potatoes and other foods to help out the feast, as well
as those families who helped cook some potatoes in their homes.
Also, if you take a peek at the end
of our photo gallery, you will see the Firehouse Community Center,
as well as a new ministry cottage for the benefit of the community.
