Steve and Sandy
Flammini
SEND International
We are both from the Chicago area. Steve grew up in Chicago,
and Sandy in Lansing, Illinois. We met at our church in Highland,
Indiana, married, and now call Hammond, Indiana, our home base when
we are in the States. Our daughter, Stephanie (born in 1987) is in
college. She plays the flute and cares for her bunny. Steven (1988)
also has started his first year in college. He enjoys learning
guitar, and cares for his two hamsters and his cat.
We have
been in the Philippines since November 1991. We'd both had
cross-cultural experiences overseas before we met. After our
marriage, Steve felt a growing dissatisfaction with his mechanical
engineering job. We began to check out various "home" ministries,
then began to look into "tent-making" ministries, but nothing seemed
to fit. Someone advised Steve to pursue more Bible education, and we
felt God leading him to Moody Bible Institute, where he met Dennis
Carlson and Mike Ballast of SEND. After several meetings with them,
we felt God leading us to apply with SEND to go to the Philippines.
We both teach at Far Eastern Bible Institute and Seminary
(FEBIAS College of Bible). Steve teaches theology and mission
courses, while Sandy teaches English and Christian Education
courses. Steve also serves on the Board of Trustees at Faith Academy
and the board of the Church Assistance Program. He is often asked to
fill the pulpit for various churches. We both love interacting with
students and really enjoy getting involved with them
personally.
The people of the Philippines are very friendly.
The country itself is quite beautiful. But the traffic will always
be difficult for us! There are ample opportunities here for anyone
who is willing to be used by the Lord to reach friendly but lost
people. Also, our missionary children's school is always looking for
people to "fill in the gap" left by people returning to their home
countries. |
